CBD oil strength calculator

CBD Dosage Calculator

New to CBD oil? Use this beginner-friendly calculator to understand CBD strength, CBD per drop and how a chosen amount translates into drops or pipette volume.

UK consumer guidance: The Food Standards Agency advises healthy adults to limit CBD from food and food supplements to 10mg per day. Count CBD from every product used that day.

Measure your CBD oil

Enter the figures shown on your product label. Then choose a measurement example or enter your own amount. The examples help explain the maths; they are not personalised dose recommendations.

Example: 1000 for a 1000mg oil.

Often 10ml or 30ml; check the label.

Use the manufacturer’s figure where supplied. Drop size varies.

Your CBD calculation

These results are estimates. Follow the product label where it states CBD per drop or per measured pipette.

The amount entered is above the FSA’s current 10mg daily limit for healthy adults. Remember to include CBD from every food or supplement used that day.

Practical note: Partial drops cannot be measured reliably. If the result is not a whole drop, use marked pipette measurements where available or choose a product strength that allows practical measurement.

A simple CBD guide for beginners

This page helps you understand CBD oil strength and translate milligrams into an approximate number of drops. It does not decide what amount is suitable for you and should not replace the product instructions or advice from a healthcare professional.

1

Read the product label

Find the total CBD in milligrams, bottle size in millilitres and any stated CBD per serving, drop or pipette.

2

Measure carefully

Use the supplied dropper and follow its markings. Drop size differs between bottles, so label information is preferable to a general estimate.

3

Track your total

Count CBD from oils, gummies, capsules, drinks and other CBD foods used on the same day. Healthy adults should not exceed 10mg daily.

Understanding CBD oil strength

CBD in milligrams (mg)

Milligrams tell you the total quantity of CBD in the bottle. A 1000mg bottle contains twice the CBD of a 500mg bottle of the same size.

CBD percentage

For many 10ml oils, 500mg is approximately 5% and 1000mg approximately 10%. Bottle size matters, so compare mg per ml rather than percentage alone.

CBD per drop

CBD per drop depends on concentration and drop size. The calculator uses your estimated drops per ml, but the product label remains the best source.

  • Choose products with clear CBD content and serving information.
  • Check whether the product appears on the FSA CBD public list where applicable.
  • Avoid products making claims to treat pain, anxiety, insomnia or disease.
  • Do not combine multiple CBD products without counting the total daily CBD.
  • Keep CBD products away from children and follow storage instructions.
  • Stop use and seek professional advice if you experience an unwanted reaction.

Who should avoid CBD?

FSA precautionary advice says CBD is not recommended for anyone under 18, people taking medication, people who are immunosuppressed, or those who are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive, unless used under medical direction. If you have a health concern, speak to a doctor or pharmacist before using CBD.

CBD food supplements are not medicines. This guide does not provide advice for a medical condition and does not claim that CBD can prevent, treat or cure disease.

CBD dosage calculator FAQs

How much CBD should a beginner take?

There is no universal personalised dose for beginners. The FSA advises healthy adults not to exceed 10mg of CBD per day from all CBD foods and supplements. Follow the product label and seek professional advice where appropriate. The 2.5mg and 5mg buttons above are measurement examples, not recommendations.

How many drops are in 1ml of CBD oil?

Twenty drops per ml is a common estimate, but droppers and liquid viscosity differ. Use the number provided by the manufacturer whenever available.

How much CBD is in one drop?

Divide the CBD per ml by the number of drops per ml. For example, a 1000mg CBD oil in a 10ml bottle contains 100mg per ml. At 20 drops per ml, that is approximately 5mg per drop.

What is the difference between 500mg and 1000mg CBD oil?

If the bottle size is the same, a 1000mg oil is twice as concentrated as a 500mg oil. Always compare the bottle volume as well as the total milligrams.

Can I use more than one CBD product in a day?

You must count the CBD from every oil, gummy, capsule, drink or other CBD food used that day. FSA guidance recommends a maximum total of 10mg per day for healthy adults.

Is this calculator medical advice?

No. It performs mathematical conversions based on the figures you enter. It does not recommend a personalised dose, diagnose a condition or replace advice from a doctor or pharmacist.

Can I use CBD while taking medication?

The FSA advises people taking medication to avoid CBD unless under medical direction because CBD may interact with medicines. Speak to a doctor or pharmacist first.

Why is the result only approximate?

Drop size changes with the dropper, angle, temperature and thickness of the oil. Where a label states CBD per drop or provides marked pipette measurements, use that information.
